Offered for sale is a super nice early career Rod Carew game used bat. This vintage model R161 dates to 1969-72 seasons. The barrel displays use including all and stitch marks. The handle has a nice coat of pine tar on it, There is a crack in the upper handle further attesting the bats game use. The barrel has a beautiful signature in black marker. Carew's correct number 29 is written on the knob. This bat has been authenticated by PSA and graded 8. Its worth noting that the LOA is from 2006. This one may be a good candidate to resubmit to PSA to have re-graded
Carew was a heavy pine tar user especially earlier in his career. However, he made a habit of removing the pine tar from his bats so to find vintage gamers with the pine tar still intact is rare. Carew gamers have dried up and the earlier examples are nearly impossible to find. Here is an example with incredible eye appeal a conservative grade.
